Helicopter racing through the gates

Heli Race 3D is a free helicopter racing game in your browser. You line up on a starting grid in the sky with five rival pilots, the countdown goes 3, 2, 1, GO, and everyone tilts forward and races for the first gate. The track is a line of glowing ring gates over the Skyhaven Islands: around an airfield, between the houses of a little town, across a busy harbor, up the side of a mountain and out to sea around a lighthouse. Fly through every gate in order, as fast and as smoothly as you can.

Fly it like a racing helicopter

Racing a helicopter is different from racing a car. To go faster, you tilt the whole helicopter forward. To turn, you swing the nose around and the helicopter banks into the corner. Gates sit at different heights, so you climb and dive as well. The best racers start their turn before the gate, so they come out of it already lined up with the next one. Thread a gate right through its middle and you get a short ⚡ boost; clip the edge and you lose time.

Eight tracks

Airfield Circuit is three easy laps around Skyhaven Field. Town Slalom weaves between the roofs of the town. Harbor Sprint loops over the boats and the harbor village. Summit Climb is a sprint straight up the mountain to the summit airstrip. Fern Isle Dash races low over the sea to Fern Isle. Lighthouse Loop circles the striped lighthouse at sunset. Island Hopper jumps between the small islands, and the Grand Tour is one giant lap around the whole map at dawn.

Race or Time Trial

In Race mode you fly against five computer pilots: Ace, Blaze, Comet, Dot and Echo. Each flies the racing line at its own pace and slows down for tight corners, so the faster pilots are hard to beat. Finish first for three stars, second for two and third for one. Your position, lap and time are shown at the top, and the rivals appear as coloured dots on the map. In Time Trial there are no rivals, just you and the clock: beat the gold time for three stars, silver for two and bronze for one. Your best time on every track is saved.

Racing tips

Keep the nose tilted forward on straight parts and only ease off for tight turns. Look at where the next gate is before you reach the current one. Use the far camera (press C) to see the line ahead. If you miss a gate, do not panic: turn around quickly and go back through it; the race is long enough to catch up. Use the boost: lining up a gate in the centre is often faster than flying flat out and clipping it.

Copters to unlock

Stars unlock new racing helicopters: the Sky Dart, the Neon Hornet and the Golden Rotor. There are 24 stars to win, three on each of the eight tracks. Getting a star also opens the next track.

Heli Race 3D runs in modern browsers on computers, Chromebooks and tablets with no download and no account. On touch screens, the stick tilts and turns the helicopter and the slider climbs and dives.
