A copter .io game you can play right now

Copter Arena.io is a free top-down helicopter battle in the style of the copter .io games that fill school computer labs. You fly a small battle copter over a big map of fields, rivers, a little town and helipads. Collect glowing stars to level up, spend your points on upgrades, and outfly the other pilots with your paint blasters. Every match is quick, every level-up makes your copter feel stronger, and the arena keeps getting more exciting as the copters grow.

Unlike online .io games, every other copter here is flown by a computer pilot. There are no strangers, no chat and no waiting for a server, so it is a safe pick for kids and it works even on a slow connection. You can choose how good the other pilots are: Easy, Normal or Hard.

Royale: last copter flying

In Royale, 12 helicopters start around the edge of the map. A purple storm surrounds the arena and, after a short wait, it starts to close in toward a new safe circle (shown as a dashed white ring on the map and the minimap). Flying in the storm slowly damages your copter, and each phase hurts more. The circle shrinks five times until there is nowhere left to hide. Knock other copters out, stay inside the circle, and be the last copter flying. Finishing in the top 5 earns a star, top 3 earns two, and winning earns three, on each difficulty level.

Score Battle: three minutes of action

Score Battle is a quicker, friendlier mode. Eight copters fly for three minutes and the pilot with the most knock-outs wins. If your copter is knocked out, it comes straight back after three seconds with a short shield, and you keep all your upgrades, so you can always fight back. Winning on each difficulty level earns a star.

Level up and upgrade

Stars are everywhere on the map, and a knocked-out copter drops a shower of bigger pink stars. Every time your level goes up you get a point to spend on one of five upgrades, each up to six times: Speed to fly faster, Armor for more health, Blaster for more damage per shot, Reload to fire faster, and Repair to heal faster when you have not been hit for a few seconds. Press 1 to 5 on the keyboard or tap the buttons in the corner. Different builds play very differently: a fast, light copter that darts in and out, or a slow armored tank that wins every close fight.

Crates, clouds and tricks

Crates pop up around the arena: a red ❤️ crate repairs your copter, a purple one gives twin blasters, a blue one gives a turbo boost, and the shield crate blocks every shot for a few seconds. White clouds drift above the map, and a copter inside a cloud is hidden from everyone who is not right next to it. Use them to escape when your health is low, to surprise a pilot flying past, or to sneak up on a fight. Watch the colored arrows at the edge of the screen: they point to copters that are near you but off the screen.

Tips for winning

Collect stars early: a few quick levels make a big difference in the first fight. Keep moving while you shoot, because standing still makes you easy to hit. Fight copters with a lower level than you, and avoid big fights with three or four copters at once; let the others knock each other out, then clean up. In Royale, start moving toward the next circle before the storm starts to close. When your health bar turns red, break away, find a repair crate or a cloud, and come back later.

Copters to unlock

Stars unlock new paint jobs for your copter: Sky Blue, Night Stealth, Tiger Stripe and the Rainbow Rotor. There are 12 stars to earn: up to three in Royale and one in Score Battle on each of the three difficulty levels.

Copter Arena.io is cartoon action: copters are knocked out with paint, spin away and come down in a puff of smoke. There is no blood, no online chat and nothing to buy. It runs in any modern browser on computers, Chromebooks, tablets and phones with no download and no account, and your stars are saved only in your own browser.
