An attack helicopter game with robots

Gunship Strike 3D is a free army helicopter game where you fly an attack gunship against the robot army of the evil inventor Dr. Gears. His machines have taken over the Dune Coast: robot tanks rumble along the desert road, anti-air robots guard radar dishes, robot boats patrol the coast and flying drones buzz over the mesas. Your job is to clear them out, one mission at a time. Every enemy is a machine with a glowing red eye, and when you knock one out it bursts into sparks and smoke, so the action stays cartoon-style and suitable for kids.

Easy to aim, fun to fly

Shooting from a helicopter is hard, so your gunship helps you. Point the nose roughly at a robot and a yellow lock box appears around it, with its health bar underneath. Hold Space and the cannon aims at the locked robot all by itself, even leading moving targets. Press X to fire homing rockets that curve toward the locked robot and hit everything nearby with a big blast. You only have eight rockets, so save them for the tough robots like bunkers.

The flying is the same friendly helicopter model as our flight games: with hover assist on, the gunship holds its height when you let go of the climb keys, so you can concentrate on moving and shooting.

Dodge, repair, reload

Dr. Gears' robots fire slow, glowing orange shots. They are easy to see coming, and you can dodge them by sidestepping with Q and E, turning away or changing height. When a shot hits, your armor goes down. If it gets low, the arrow points you home: land on the green 🔧 pad at the base and your crew repairs the gunship and reloads your rockets.

Eight missions

Target Range teaches you to aim at practice boards. Radar Raid sends you after three radar dishes guarded by anti-air robots. Tank Column stops a line of robot tanks on the road. Boat Patrol sinks robot boats off the coast. Convoy Escort asks you to protect four supply trucks driving to town while drones and tanks attack them. Drone Dogfight is a battle with fast flying drones. Desert Fortress combines bunkers, tanks and anti-air robots. Finally, The Mega Bunker is Dr. Gears' giant command dome, protected by everything he has left.

Each mission gives up to three stars: one for winning, two for finishing with more than half your armor at every moment, and three for also beating the par time. Stars unlock new paint schemes: Sand Viper, Night Owl and Hero Gold.

Tips

Keep moving: robots aim where you are, so a gunship that hovers still is easy to hit. Attack from far away first, then close in. Take out anti-air robots before radars and bunkers, because they shoot the most. Use rockets on groups, since the blast hits every robot near the impact. In the convoy mission, stay close to the trucks and shoot the drones before they reach them. And never be afraid to fly home for repairs: a short trip to the pad is better than losing the mission.
