A helicopter math game for kids

Heli Math turns math facts into a flight through the clouds. A friendly little helicopter flies across a sunny sky, a question pops up at the top of the screen, and three fluffy clouds float toward you, each with a number. Steer up or down and fly right through the cloud with the right answer. Get it right and the cloud sparkles; get it wrong and the copter bumps through the cloud while the right answer appears, so you learn it for next time.

It is quick, calm and easy to play, which makes it great for practising the same facts again and again until they stick.

What you can practise

Choose from eight topics: adding within 10 and within 20, taking away within 10 and within 20, the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, the 3 and 4 times tables, all the times tables from 2 to 9, and dividing. The questions never repeat too soon, and the wrong answers are the ones children really mix up, like answers that are one too many or one too few, so every choice is a real thinking moment.

Read aloud and three speeds

Every question can be read aloud by the browser's own voice: turn on the read-aloud option before you fly, or tap 🗣️ at any time. Pick the speed that fits: Gentle for younger children or new topics, Cruise for normal practice and Zoom for children who know their facts and want a challenge.

Flight and Sky Marathon

Flight is ten questions. Five right answers earn a star, eight earn two, and all ten earn three. Sky Marathon keeps going until you lose your three hearts, and the helicopter speeds up a little after every right answer. At the end, Heli Math lists the facts you missed under "Let's remember", which is a handy list to practise.

Tips for learning the facts

Say the question in your head before you look at the clouds, then look for your answer. If two clouds look possible, think about whether the answer should be bigger or smaller than the numbers in the question. For times tables, count up in steps if you are not sure: 5, 10, 15, 20. For taking away, count back from the bigger number. And do not worry about mistakes: the right answer always appears, and the list at the end shows exactly which facts to practise next time. Most children find that a few short flights a day work better than one long session.

Helicopters to unlock

Stars unlock new helicopters: Pink Puff, Green Gecko and the Rainbow Rotor. With eight topics and three stars each, there is a lot to collect.

For parents and teachers

Heli Math is good for fact fluency: quick recall of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Short sessions of a few minutes a day work best. Start on Gentle with an easier topic, then move up when your child gets three stars. There are no adverts inside the game, no chat, no accounts and nothing to buy, and progress is saved only on your device. It runs in any modern browser on computers, Chromebooks, tablets and phones. See the Parents & Safety page for more.
